AI analysis for legal professionals and their clients

Plain-English AI explanations for legal professionals advising clients on confidentiality, information access, permissions and responsibility.

Understand what business AI tools can read and do, what provider protections cover and what evidence may be needed to examine an action or challenge a decision.

Clients may be sharing information with AI without recognising that they are doing so. A meeting summary, an email assistant or a connected customer database can introduce questions about confidentiality, authority and responsibility into otherwise familiar business activities.

Legal advice depends on understanding those activities accurately.

  • What information was available to the AI?
  • Who permitted access?
  • Did it prepare a suggestion or carry out an action?
  • What can the client demonstrate about what happened?

Clear explanations for client advice

I turn complex descriptions of AI features, permissions and provider commitments into plain-English explanations that legal professionals can use in client discussions. The emphasis is on what a capability means in practice: where information goes, what control the client retains and which questions remain unanswered.

For example, “not used for training” can sound like a comprehensive privacy protection. Explaining its scope helps a client understand that access, processing, sharing and retention still need separate consideration. Similarly, approving the use of an assistant does not necessarily explain or authorise every connection and action available to it.

Understanding the evidence

When a communication, record or decision is disputed, a general description of the technology is insufficient. The relevant questions concern the information used, the output produced, the permissions in force and the part played by human review.

My writing explains what evidence may be needed to reconstruct events and why missing records or subsequent service changes can make that difficult. It gives legal professionals a clearer basis for requesting information and explaining its significance to clients.

Helping clients make informed choices

Clients need to understand both the value of a feature and the conditions attached to using it. Faster drafting or easier document retrieval may be useful, but the benefit depends on suitable access, careful review and a workable way to correct mistakes.

Whether the subject is your firm’s own tools or a client’s business arrangements, a clear explanation makes the technology easier to discuss and the resulting choices easier to understand.
